The importance of buying only the safest trampolines was underlined this week when Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, reported an incredible increase in trampoline related injuries this year, with 168 cases so far and a whopping 26 cases documented in the last month alone.
Dr Robert Florance, Emergency Care Consultant at the hospital, said that “hospitals across the country are seeing an increase in trampoline related injuries.
“Usually they have involved two people using a trampoline at the same time, with one person on the trampoline being heavier than the other, causing an imbalance. We would urge parents to make sure they supervise trampoline use in accordance with safety instructions given by the manufacturer.”
He went on to state that trampoline related injuries can range from sprains right up to broken limbs, including all of the summertime restrictions that a plastered arm or leg can impose.
The Royal Society For The Prevention Of Accidents published a report recording some 4,200 trampoline related accidents involving children up and down the UK in 2002.
