Widnes Teen Wins Trampolining Silver

A 19-year-old Brit has achieved a silver medal at this year’s inaugural FIG Trampoline and Tumbling World Cup event.

Emma Smith, a full time athlete from Widnes, took the medal in the contest in Bulgaria, a timely warm up for working towards her potential selection for the 2012 Olympics in London.

A part of The City of Liverpool Trampoline squad, Smith competed on the trampoline against 36 women from 24 countries and achieved a very respectable second place, losing out to Bulgaria’s own Tatsiana Piatrenia.

Shortly after her trampolining success, Smith said: “It feels great to be up on the podium again, especially in such an important year and this is a step up in the right direction from my bronze medal in Spain last year. There has been an amazing team spirit with all of our GB girls here and we have shown the world that we mean business.”
